As it’s so easy to access, more and more services are shifting to the internet. Among these are electronic pay services such as address databases, archives of specialist periodicals, media libraries, gaming platforms, knowledge databases, but also customer accounts in online shops, ordering systems or closed user forums. But a flexible access also faces high challenges concerning access security and data protection. Following risks must be considered:

  • Unauthorized access
  • Illicit sharing of access data
  • Sniffing user data

Securely authenticate users

Username and password are no longer sufficient to safely authenticate users. With Trojans, key loggers or eavesdropping on e-mails, it’s quite simple to intercept access data. ECOS Portal Protection is based on ECOS MOBILE OFFICE STICK (MOS) which acts as two-factor authentication. In other words, in addition to username and password the stick must be plugged into the USB port to allow for a safe authentication.

Ensure sales growth

Pay services providers know the problem well: The illicit sharing of access data leads to substantial amounts of sales losses. While tying the service to a particular PC restricts the user’s flexibility and often causes considerable support efforts, one-time passwords only provide limited protection against the sharing of user data with acquaintances. ECOS MOBILE OFFICE STICK therefore contains a software certificate which is tied to the stick’s hardware ID, thus excluding copying or sharing of access data. The method requires no installation on the respective PC.

Protection against hacker attacks

Usually, web servers are directly connected to the internet and therefore directly accessible for any hacker in the world. ECOS MOBILE OFFICE STICK sets up a secured VPN tunnel to the ECOS VPN gateway through the ECOS SECURE GATEWAY APPLIANCE. The web server is located behind the VPN gateway and can hence only be reached this way. The VPN client and the access data required for this operation are stored encrypted on the stick.

Always the right browser

Many web applications require a particular browser type or version and particular plugins. With ECOS MOBILE OFFICE STICK, users always have the right browser right within reach. If desired, we can also implement customer-specific plugins into the stick.
